Amber Karr Education Specialist After six years in the classroom and twelve years of student programming, I am thrilled to be a part of Pathways for Learning as an academic tutor. My entire career has been dedicated to working with children from a wide range of backgrounds and abilities. I’ve had the privilege of directing multiple academic after school programs for the YMCA, supervising an ICF home for children with mental retardation, and teaching in both public and private schools. One of my most rewarding teaching experiences was working with middle school remedial readers, and watching them feel success. Each child I’ve worked with has taught me as much as I’ve taught them, and I use those lessons to help future students. I love finding what works for a student who is experiencing difficulties, and finding a way to use those skills to help them excel in areas where they encounter challenges. Often finding the right combination of strategies for a student is like putting together pieces in a puzzle, and when all the pieces are in correctly the result is incredible. I am a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a minor in history. My happiest moments are spent just enjoying time with my family, especially my husband and daughter. In my spare time, I also enjoy reading, traveling, and listening to music. |
