Pathways for Learning’s Discover Writing Success™ Kits were developed to provide a parent and/or teacher with the tools necessary to successfully and easily prepare a child for the writing demands which are required in school. • Design Copy -Place Wikki Stix in various designs using geometric shapes and lines. Have your child copy the design with his/her own set of Wikki Stix
• Use Wikki Stix on a vertical surface (easel, cabinet, refrigerator) to strengthen the wrist. Let your child be creative.
• Use Wikki Stix to make letters, numbers, write their name or practice their spelling words.

 

 

Pop Beads

¼ lb bag of pop beads; approximately 100 beads. CHOKING HAZARD – NOT FOR CHILDREN UNDER 3.

Pop beads are a great way to warm up little fingers for writing. Tips from our OT:

• Encourage your child to connect the pop beads using the tip of their thumb, pointer finger, and side/tip of their middle finger (tripod grasp). This is preferable to using the tip of the thumb and the side of the index finger (lateral grasp).
• Once your child understands how to connect the beads and is having success, ask them to copy color patterns and/or reproduce patterns from memory. This continues to work on pinch strength but also adds some visual sequencing necessary for sight word recognition and spelling.
